Future Trucks are Full of Technology
2015 was marked by a new direction for truck safety in the United States (US). The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) asked companies to focus more on truck safety. These include anti-collision technology, limiting driving hours for truck drivers, and tightening regulations on trucking companies whose fleets of trucks are often involved in accidents.
As in Indonesia, the freight fleet business in the US also plays an important role in the lifeblood of the economy. However, the number of accidents involving trucks has also increased. In 2013, around 3,900 people died in accidents involving trucks.
The survey institute Frost & Sullivan noted, in 2020 it is estimated that there will be 917,069 truck safety systems, an increase from 409,417 in 2013. The truck safety systems include Driver Information Warning Systems (DIWS), Active Chassis Control Systems (ACCS), and Integrated Safety Systems (ISS). ).
The research was conducted by Lakshmi Narayanan, a senior researcher in automotive and commercial vehicle transportation at Frost & Sullivan. According to him, until 2010 the truck market in the future will be determined by several matters relating to safety. That is for example the increasing understanding of the importance of safety among transportation companies, increasingly stringent regulations, demands of transportation companies to reduce costs, and the increasing role of the transportation safety system.
"Several safety systems such as Integrated Safety Systems, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection are expected to develop rapidly because they really help drivers avoid accidents, and that is an advantage for transportation companies," said Narayanan.
